First time trying Laotian food and I'm definitely going to be looking for more places closer to home! Free parking was a little difficult to find, there's only street parking and we ended up paying $4 for 2 hours. Vibe was cute, simple and modern -- we saw several couples on dates and girl hangouts. Seats are comfy with armrests and two bathrooms can be found in the back. ~~ What we ordered ~~ Laos papaya salad -- this was very pungent and also fishy. I really wished there was some more complexity to the flavor so I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed by the fishiness Truffle fries -- very heavy garlic and Parmesan but where was the truffle taste? Fries were lightly crispy Khao Piak -- so good! Noodles are made from tapioca and rice, which explains why they were so soft with a slight bounce. This soup was delicious and comforting with white and black pepper. My second favorite! Mee ground pork -- my favorite! So fresh and there's so much happening in terms of texture and taste, it's a party in your mouth. I wanted more of this! It's savory, a little sweet, and fresh. Pineapple curry -- this was pretty standard! I liked it but this paled in comparison to the other Laotian dishes. Pineapples did absorb the spice and I love, love bamboo shoots Basil rice with chicken -- lots of vegetables but also pretty good and standard! It was good, rice was well seasoned, with jalapeños sprinkled throughout Thai tea -- pretty good! The cup itself was huge but there's a good amount of ice. I wish I saw the green Thai tea before ordering this :') Our server was friendly and food came out quickly as well. I'll be saving and coming again if I ever happen to be in the area.

Came here to have a light dinner with a friend and we both loved it. . We had a order of the lao sausage and it was so good with some lao salsa with tomato based and spicy. Paired it with some sticky rice and it was so good. . Pappaya salad asked for 3 thai peppers and it was so hot and fire. Depending on the peppers sometimes not spicy. It was so good lao style so flavorful and pungent. . Duck larb which is different and duck larb is such a bougie dish to me, the herbs is so good mixed in and a great salad for the hotter months. Great if you don't want something too heavy. . Overall they do have specials for beers. Make sure ask specifically for the happy hour beer. Service was just simple and nothing special. Ambiance inside is cozy and nice seating area. Hope this helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day.

New Thai restaurant downtown. Street parking only. The Thai Green and Ice Tea were huge and good. The lobster Pad Thai was a bit overrated. I only ordered it after watching a Reel on Facebook. The crispy chicken skin and pork bowl were both 10 out of 10. The steak wasn't bad but, there was a huge piece of fat, which is probably what kept it tender and juicy. Duck lamb was pretty good.

I was introduced to this place by a family member who goes here almost every week, and it lived up to my expectations! The atmosphere was cozy, with dim lighting and comfortable seats. The green curry (mild spice) had a lot of depth and a good spice to it. There were a lot of veggies inside, like bamboo shoots and eggplant. The consistency is more liquid-y compared to other green curries I've tried but I would still recommend. I also enjoyed the Pad See Ew dish but would get mild spice next time. I recommend trying the green thai tea if you like jasmine tea. The staff was accommodating and the food came out fast.

Food: I think most people come here thinking Thai, but this is very much also a Lao spot. For as many greasy Thai spots there are here, this place is super delicious, and why I have it the 5 star. For lack of a better word, the food feels super clean and tasty. They have a great assortment of spices and sauces to adjust the heat level and taste of your food. I've had the pad thai, drunken noodles, and some curries here and I've always enjoyed them. This last time, I tried a Laotian dish - Mee Kati. This was super tasty dish where you had hot broth do this delicious concoction of noodles, veggies, herbs, and meat, and then mix. The fresh rolls were killer. I was pretty meh on the chicken wings. A little too much breading without a lot of flavor. Service: Super friendly and attentive. No concerns here at all. Ambiance - I think this place is super cute. It has great lighting and is has a very gentle/serene vibe. It's 100% a nice date spot (minus the fact that there aren't too many spots in walking distance and in questionable area)

Wonderful Thai food. My friend and I came here for dinner since we were around the area after working at a cafe. Extremely organized and clean environment. Service was quick and proceeded to help us figure out the menu and offered recommendations. I appreciated this gesture. The food was YUM. I got the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken noodles) and my friend got the Tom Yum soup. Drunken noodles was by far one of the best ones I've had in Sacramento. The noodles were bouncy and coupled with a wonderful spice it that wasn't overwhelming the dish. Vegetables and the meat of your choice (I chose chicken) paired very well with the noodles. Highly recommend checking this spot out! I'll probably add on a thai iced tea next time since I saw a table next to me and that looked quite yummy as well haha.

Love it! Hiso is a fantastic addition to the Sacramento area for authentic Lao and Thai food. It's not located directly downtown but on the outskirts, depending on where you're coming from. After reading several positive Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try and made the trip just to experience the food for myself. Parking is limited to street parking, so we had to park around the corner and walk to the restaurant. Once we stepped inside, we were greeted with beautifully curated Southeast Asian decor. The space felt very welcoming and aesthetically pleasing, with one standout feature being a map of Laos spotlighted on the wall in the waiting area. I loved that touch, it really added to the charm and authenticity of the Lao & Thai vibes. Although it wasn't very busy during dinner time, we still had to wait a bit to be seated. Our waitress was friendly. For dinner, we ordered the truffle fries as an appetizer, followed by the chicken pad Thai (medium heat), Lao-style steak, and noodle soup kao piek. * Truffle Fries: A great starter, perfectly crisp and flavorful. * Chicken Pad Thai: The flavor was spot on saucy, sweet, sour, and the perfect level of medium heat. I couldn't get enough! So good! * Lao-Style Steak: A good portion size but on the pricier side for $35. The cut of steak was fattier than I expected, which was a bit disappointing. * Noodle Soup Kao Piek: The broth was rich and flavorful, but for my personal taste, the white pepper was a little overpowering and overshadowed the other flavors. While the food was delicious overall, one improvement I'd suggest is for them to check their tables. The table we were seated at was uneven and kept tilting back and forth, which was distracting while trying to enjoy the meal. I also liked the upholstered seating against the wall. Despite that minor issue, Hiso delivered on flavor and ambiance, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lao and Thai cuisine in Sacramento. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes when I am in the area.

Like a lot of midtown/downtown restaurants, the portion to price ratio isn't the best. Street parking. Service was average. Even though they weren't busy, we were standing around and waiting to get seated for a while. It also took them a long time to check on our order. After our dishes were brought out, they did check in a couple times though. Food-wise, everything tasted good and had a lot of flavor. We tried the following dishes: Fresh Roll, Butter Shiitake Mushroom, Tom Yum, Tom Kha, Mango Curry, Pad Thai, and Basil Fried Rice. Surprisingly, I preferred the Tom Yum over the Tom Kha. The Tom Yum was more flavorful, and the coconut flavor wasn't as present as l like it to be in Tom Kha. I really enjoyed the Fresh Rolls. The peanut sauce was one of the best I've had. To drink, I tried the Green Thai Tea. This was not the drink for me. It was so overly sweet; I had a hard time getting it down. For dessert, l had the Mango Sticky Rice. l've never had a bad Mango Sticky Rice from anywhere, and here was not an exception. Overall, a nice, quiet & small place to grab a bite if you don't feel like consuming huge portions (or don't mind ordering a lot of dishes that will likely add up in the end).
